Martial Arts

Capoeira
Ages 6-11

Capoeira (pronounced cap-wearer) is a Brazilian martial art form, combining self-defense, acrobatics, dance, music and song. ABADÁ-Capoeira Marin’s nonprofit mission is to provide the best capoeira program in Marin that will enrich our students lives through culture and diversity. By incorporating these values, we hope to help our students become good citizens in our local and global community. Our program is based on encouragement, truth, trust, active listening and personal effort.
Capoeira is unique martial art that offers countless benefits to the children with respect to both physical and mental development. By incorporating body movement, percussion, music and singing, capoeira help develop balance, coordination, fitness, flexibility, and rhythm. About the class: we know from years of experience that capoeira is a powerful way to teach young people valuable life skills - confidence, leadership, goal-setting, teamwork, cooperation, and respect - that can lead to a lifetime of good health and civic involvement. Capoeira is truly a holistic approach to youth development. Capoeira also builds social skills, a sense of community and self-esteem through creative thinking and expression. The class will teach basic capoeira techniques and music including traditional instruments and songs in Portuguese.
